About Moxy Hotel Clarence Street West
2 - 4 Clarence Street West is a ten-storey hotel and office building, which originally hosted the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel, a well-known midscale hotel offering in Belfast. The Park Inn provided 145 guest rooms, conference facilities, a restaurant, and a leisure centre, serving a mixture of corporate and leisure clientele.
Prior to its development as a hotel, the site at 2–4 Clarence Street West, Belfast, had a significant industrial and commercial history. In the mid-20th century, 4 Clarence Street West was occupied by Stanley Harvey & Co., a notable motor engineering business. Stanley Harvey & Co. specialised in the sale and servicing of high-end vehicles and was recognised as an authorised Rolls-Royce dealership.
Following the decline of Stanley Harvey & Co., the premises were converted into a leisure facility known as the Belfast Superbowl in 1988/89. Belfast Superbowl was a ten-pin bowling alley, with amusement arcade and associated bar which operated until the late 1990s.
By the early 2000s, the Belfast Superbowl had ceased operations, and the site was identified for redevelopment. Reflecting the city’s broader regeneration strategies, especially in the aftermath of the Belfast Good Friday Agreement in 1998, the Linen Quarter was targeted for investment, including new hospitality projects aimed at boosting tourism and business travel.
In April 2005, Ovolo Ltd submitted a planning application (Z/2005/0692/F) proposing to demolish the existing ten pin bowling complex and develop a hotel and office building. The application was approved in October 2006.
In November 2006, Ovolo Ltd submitted an amended application (Z/2006/2729/F). This application was approved in March 2007.
In 2008, the existing structures at 2–4 Clarence Street West were demolished to facilitate the construction of a purpose-built hotel. The Park Inn by Radisson Belfast opened on the site in that year. The new hotel development introduced 145 guest rooms, conference and meeting facilities, a fitness centre, and a restaurant, responding to growing demand for mid-market accommodation in central Belfast.
The Park Inn by Radisson closed in 2021, largely influenced by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitality industry. Following its closure, the property was leased for the provision of accommodation for asylum seekers, a temporary measure that aligned with broader regional humanitarian initiatives. In 2024, the MHL Hotel Collection, an Irish hotel investment and management group, completed the purchase of the site, announcing plans to reposition the property under the Moxy brand, one of Marriott International’s lifestyle hotel brands targeted at the millennial and Gen Z demographics.
In December 2024, MHL Hospitality Limited submitted a planning application (LA04/2024/2117/A) proposing the erection of Moxy Hotel signage. This application was approved in March 2025.
In May 2025, MHL Hospitality Limited submitted a planning application (LA04/2025/0798/F) proposing external alterations to ground and first floor
elevations.
