Titanic Boulevard, Titanic Quarter, BT3 9DT
About TQ Student Village
The Titanic Quarter Student Village is a proposed purpose built student accommodation development located on Titanic Boulevard in Titanic Quarter. The 'TQ Student Village' will consist of four blocks, varying in height from five to nine storeys. Situated between the new Olympic House office building and Belfast Metropolitan College, it has the capacity to house up to 1,200 students.
From 1879 to 1880, Harland & Wolff constructed an engine works, boiler shop, foundry, and related facilities, including pattern, joiners’, and smiths’ shops, as part of the shipyard's expansion. These shops were situated within the application site, as indicated on the 1884 OS map.
The lands underwent redevelopment, likely due to damage from the Luftwaffe Blitz in 1941, forming engineering works. By the 1960s, Queen's Island saw the launch of its final ship, marking a shift in the yard's operations to the new Building Dock at the head of Musgrave Channel. The engineering works were subsequently abandoned in the 1990s and eventually demolished. Since then, the site has remained empty.
In November 2009, Titanic Quarter Ltd submitted a planning application (Z/2009/1603/F) proposing the construction of a Financial Services Campus, with 55,740 square meters of space for Class B1(a) office and Class A2 financial services. It also includes mixed-use areas for retail, community activities, and restaurants totalling 5,937 square meters, along with parking for 583 vehicles, an access road, landscaping, and infrastructure. This application was approved in November 2010.
In April 2024, Watkin Jones Group and Lacuna Developments submitted a planning application (LA04/2024/0681/F) proposing a Purpose-Built Managed Student Accommodation development consisting of four blocks ranging from 5 to 9 storeys, totalling up to 35,850 square meters of floorspace. The development includes a café, communal facilities, landscaped courtyards, internal bin and cycle stores, PV array, disabled parking, public realm provisions, site works, and an extension of Titanic Boulevard to create a new junction with Hamilton Road. This application was approved in December 2024.

St Comgalls
Updated 2 years ago
St Comgalls is a two storey Listed Grade B1 (ref. HB/26/33/004) building that is located on Divis Street. The site was occupied by the old Belfast Model School from 1855 until it was destroyed by fire in 1922. The Catholic Church subsequently took over the site in 1932 and it became St Comgall's Primary School (originally known as St Comgall's Public Elementary School), which opened in December 1933. St Comgalls was designed by R.S. Wilshere. The buildings are characterised by their Neo-Georgian facades in red clay brickwork and grey 'cast stone' with large multi-paned windows and pitched slated roofs. St Comgalls Primary School closed in the 1999. For a period of time after the closure of the school, the Training and Employment Agency and WorkNet had offices in the building to help people into employment. The offices closed down and eventually the site became derelict.
