About Halt Belfast
Halt Belfast is a proposed street food market & community hub located in the former Europa Buscentre, at 10 Glengall Street, Belfast, immediately adjacent to the Europa Hotel and in proximity to Belfast Grand Central Station and the Grand Opera House. The premises comprise a ground-level bus station, formerly operated by Translink, with access through Great Northern Mall to Great Victoria Street. The station was situated beneath the Great Northern multi-storey car park and included a covered bus apron area, internal station facilities, and a pedestrian concourse.
The site lies within a key part of Belfast city centre, forming part of the Weavers Cross area, which has been subject to recent transport-led regeneration associated with the development of the Belfast Grand Central Station.
The Europa Buscentre was constructed and opened in 1991, intended to consolidate Belfast’s city-centre bus operations into a single, purpose-built facility. Operated by Translink, the centre accommodated regional and intercity bus services, with onward rail connections via the adjacent Great Victoria Street Station.
The station featured:
A covered apron with approximately 20 bus stands
A public concourse with ticketing, seating, toilets, retail, and café units
Direct pedestrian access to Glengall Street and Great Victoria Street via the mall
The location was selected due to its strategic city-centre position and its proximity to multi-modal transport links. The site has historically functioned as a transport interchange, forming a critical part of Belfast’s public transportation infrastructure for over 30 years.
During the early 1990s, the facility was impacted by two car bomb incidents in 1991 and 1993, resulting in structural damage. Following repairs, the buscentre continued operations, with upgraded security and access arrangements implemented thereafter.
In September 2024, the Europa Buscentre ceased public operations following the completion and opening of the Belfast Grand Central Station. All bus and rail services formerly operating from the site were transferred to the new integrated station, as part of Translink’s wider regeneration plans for the Weavers Cross area. Since this transition, the former buscentre has remained unoccupied.
In March 2025, proposals were revealed for the temporary transformation of the former Europa Buscentre into a new hospitality and events venue known as Halt Belfast. The scheme forms part of the wider Weavers Cross regeneration project, being brought forward by MRP (McAleer & Rushe Property) in collaboration with Translink, the site owner and former operator of the bus centre.
HHG NO.4 Limited submitted a planning application (LA04/2025/0495/F) seeking permission for a five-year change of use to repurpose the vacated bus station and surrounding apron area. The proposal includes the following key elements:
A street food and beverage market
Space for retail stalls
Provision for live entertainment and events
Use of both internal and external areas of the former station
Improved pedestrian access and connectivity with the adjacent Europa Hotel and Great Victoria Street
The developers have cited inspiration from other successful Belfast-based urban reuse projects such as Common Market (Cathedral Quarter) and Trademarket (Dublin Road). According to public statements, the venue is intended to support local businesses, enhance the city centre’s hospitality offering, and provide an active use for the site while long-term redevelopment plans within Weavers Cross are brought forward.
This planning application was approved in May 2025, with Halt Belfast expected to open in summer 2025 and is anticipated to generate approximately 40 jobs during its operational period.
Halt Belfast opened to the public on Tuesday 8th July 2025. Halt Belfast includes a range of food, drink and clothing retailers such as Bodega Bagels, Fowl Play, Patty's, Block 313, Daisies, WAK-O, Katsu Kitchen, Root & Branch and Franky's Lasagneria.

Callender House is a four-storey office building located at 58-60 Upper Arthur Street in Belfast City Centre. Originally completed in 1991 as a three-storey health club, the building was later expanded with a fourth floor and converted to its current mixed-use configuration.
