About Former 1st Shankill NI Supporters Club
The former 1st Shankill NI Supporters Club is a two-storey building that occupies a corner plot at the western end of the Shankill Road, at the junction with Lanark Way. The site also has an elevation facing onto Battenberg Street to the south-east. The building has a total footprint of 200sqm (0.22 acres). The site was primarily used for social club and bar use with the north of the site currently undeveloped.
Planning history indicates that the former 1st Shankill NI Supporters Club use has been established and operating continuously since 1985 (Z/1985/2051). Part of the ground floor was used as a licensed off-sales and an application was approved for alterations in 1986 (Z/1986/0871 & Z/1986/1103). In September 1987, a planning application was submitted (Z/1987/1885) to refurbish the buildings facades and was later approved.
The building was also further extended, with an application submitted in July 1995 (Z/1995/2623) to extend the club premises to store kegs and bottles and an application submitted in July 2006 (Z/2006/1598/F) to extend the existing function room.
On 7th November 2021, the 1st Shankill NI Supporters' Club closed and the site was sold to new owners, who are revealed they are planning to turn the site into a bar/restaurant.
In July 2022, Elite Fit Out Limited submitted a planning application (LA04/2022/1450/F) proposing change of use from vacant social club and bar to a bar, restaurant and function room. The application also proposed a first floor side extension, a 2 storey side and rear extension, alterations to Shankill Road facade and alterations to boundary on Lanark Way. This application was approved in March 2025.
