About 19-27 Lombard Street

17-21 Lombard Street is currently a single storey building that comprises of a Caffè Nero coffee house and a retail unit. The site was previously home to Delaneys which closed in 2011.

The first known building on the site was constructed in 1877 was a temporary shop unit at ground floor level. The architects of this building were Thomas Jackson and Son. Alterations were made on the site in 1914 which included a roof being added over an entry at the rear of the building to provide more internal space. In 1920, further additions were proposed to be added for Messrs James L Ltd. These proposals were designed by Munce and Kennedy architects and included developing a three storey building with a mansard roof.

In December 2021, Marmont Properties Limited submitted a planning application (LA04/2021/2870/F) seeking to demolish the existing single storey building and to develop a five storey building that comprises a new cafe/restaurant on the ground floor and 12no. apartments on the upper four storeys. The agent for the project, InsideOut Architects NI said that the proposal takes many of its design considerations from the 1920s proposed design namely its form and proportions. This application was in December 2022.
